Connect, collaborate, and cultivate

Hubitat is a coworking community in Novi Sad

Born in 2018 from the energy of DaFED, Novi Sad’s IT community, Hubitat started as a space for people who believed work could be something more. More than five years later, it’s home to entrepreneurs, creatives, freelancers, and remote workers from across Serbia and beyond. And yes, we work here too.

PEOPLE, PURPOSE, PLACE

What we believe in

We believe in people. And in what becomes possible when the right ones come together.

Diversity

Hubitat is shaped by the people in it. Different backgrounds, industries, ways of thinking. The best ideas come from rooms where not everyone thinks the same – and that’s exactly what we build for.

Openness

Some are from here. Some found their way here. All are building something beyond here. What connects them is this space — and each other. Local at heart, global by nature.

Initiative

Things change when people decide to make them change. The way you work, what you build, the decisions you make every day. Initiative is how individuals shape communities. We build for people who show up with that in mind.

You are one of us if you love…

Animals

Bring your furry best friend to work – we’ve got toys and treats ready. Our two charming Zebra Finches will keep you company too, typically chilling out and soaking up the sun on the terrace. Last year we even welcomed baby birds into the world. Proud midwives ever since.

A home away from home

Feel free to be yourself. Whether you’re rocking your favorite pajamas and flip-flops or catching a movie in our chill zone — think of us as your second living room, but with better coffee and way more talented people.

Bicycles

Many of us pedal to work, soaking up the morning sun along the way. On weekends, some hit the trails in Fruška gora. When you need to park, we’ve got two spots covered — one inside the building, one in the backyard.

Food

There’s always something tasty going on — from comforting classics to cheesy delights. Our coworkers often whip up proper feasts, including traditional Serbian dishes like pasulj, sarma, and gibanica. Food is serious business here, and everyone’s welcome at the table.

Our planet

Every little bit counts. We’re committed to making our space greener — and we’ve already taken the first steps. Soft spot for plants and flowers too, so feel free to bring your favorite greenery.

Events

Conferences, meetups, panels – if something interesting is happening, chances are we’re there or we’re hosting it. And if you’ve got an idea for one, bring it. We’ll help you make it happen.

Historic charm, modern comfort

Hubitat Novi Sad

Situated in the heart of Novi Sad, Hubitat occupies the historic “Vatican” building, a 1930s architectural gem designed by David “Daka” Popović. With its striking Secessionist facade and sun-drenched terraces, it’s one of the most distinctive addresses in the city. Built at a time when Novi Sad was reimagining itself, it carries the spirit of people who believed that great spaces inspire great things.

The "Vatican" building

The building is a remarkable addition to the rich architectural tapestry of Novi Sad’s city centre where residential, commercial, and civic buildings from the Austro-Hungarian and Yugoslav periods coexist. Just steps away from the magnificent Neo-Gothic Roman Catholic Parish Church of “The Name of Mary” and the vibrant Liberty Square, Hubitat is perfectly positioned within this lively and dynamic neighborhood.

For us, the “Vatican” building represents more than a location. Its historic character, thoughtful design, and lively surroundings reflect our belief that workspaces should inspire connection, creativity, and a sense of belonging. Here, history and innovation meet – creating a place where people connect the past ideas with the future.

Who was Daka Popović?

Daka Popović (Serbian Cyrillic: Давид “Дака” Поповић; 1886–1967) was a multi-talented Serbian figure — engineer, architect, military officer, journalist, and politician. He served in the Kingdom of Yugoslavia as Ban of the Danube Banovina and Minister of Land Reform, leaving a lasting mark on Novi Sad’s architecture, particularly the iconic Danube embankment.

ANCIENT ROOTS, MODERN PURPOSE

Hubitat Belgrade

Situated in the vibrant core of Belgrade, we are housed in the historic “Palata Avalske zadruge,” designed in 1931 by Aleksandar Janković. At a time when heavy, decorative facades were the norm, Janković chose differently – clean lines, natural light, spaces built entirely around usability. An architecture that respects the people inside it. Today, we carry that forward, providing a workspace built to serve the people inside.

Courtyards then, Hubitat now

This neighborhood has always been a hub for makers and doers. Back in 1867, Emilijan Josimović’s city plan transformed these streets into a structured, modern center. But the real magic happened in the hidden courtyards along this street. Long before modern offices existed, these spots were buzzing micro-economies – places where artisans, tailors, and photographers worked side by side, sharing tools and trading skills without any fuss.

Hubitat brings that exact energy into the digital age. Our space at number 12 is built for modern trades – optimized, functional, and free of unnecessary distractions. We’ve embraced the history of our building to create a workspace that does exactly what those old courtyards did: inspire connection, spark creativity, and build a real community.

The inclusive legacy of Čika Ljuba

The street we call home gets its name from Ljubomir P. Nenadović (Serbian Cyrillic: Љубомир П. Ненадовић; 1826–1895), universally known as “Čika Ljuba.” As a 19th-century writer and educator, he didn’t believe in gatekeeping knowledge – he broke down complex ideas into simple words, making sure people from all walks of life could join the conversation. He believed knowledge should be accessible to everyone. We look to his legacy as a reminder of how we want to build our community: by keeping things open, supportive, and focused on sharing ideas without pretension.

Community

Hubitat was built around community – not the other way around. Every event, every layout decision, every membership tier starts with the same question: does this bring people together? Over 150 events and counting, the answer keeps being yes.

Collaboration

The best collaborations at Hubitat often start with a shared coffee or a chance conversation on the terrace. We put different industries, backgrounds, and disciplines in the same room — and let the rest happen naturally.

Curiosity

Panels, workshops, skill shares, industry talks — there’s always something happening at Hubitat that makes you think differently. We celebrate learning out loud. The curious find their people here.

Commitment

From the plants in the space to the events on the calendar, every decision at Hubitat has an intention behind it. We think about the footprint we leave — in the community around us, not just the one inside.

What our community members say

“Hubitat has become one of my favorite places to work. The location is excellent, the interior is beautiful and welcoming, and the atmosphere strikes the perfect balance for staying focused and productive. What I especially appreciate is that it’s not just a quiet coworking space, but also a place where you can meet interesting people, exchange ideas, and feel a genuine sense of community and support. They also have meeting rooms available, which is a big plus.”

“I’ve been coming here for years. Good people, good coffee, neat and welcoming. If you want to talk, there’s always someone — if not, no pressure. Excellent working conditions and a great location.”

“A coworking space with a great system. Big meeting room, lounge for casual meetups, espresso machine, full kitchen, two balconies facing the quiet backyard. Clean every day, comfortable desks, good quality printer. But what makes it work is the community – people here collaborate, recommend each other to clients, and that warm feeling of being part of something shows.”

“I dropped in for a day of work coming from Novi Sad and was pleasantly surprised. The person at the entrance spoke Russian, showed me around, explained everything, and brought me tea. Great WiFi, plenty of light and space.”

“As a freelancer, it’s a great place to get work done and hang out with other members. Located in the centre of Novi Sad with lots of interesting spots nearby.”

“Super place to work and just be. I visited Hubitat on an Open Day and it was awesome — the organizers were hospitable, gave a full tour of the rooms and amenities, and the regular guests turned out to be very friendly. The space has two floors, lots of rooms of different sizes, wooden tables, comfortable seating, fast internet, and it’s pet-friendly. A cat lives there and has its own bed. Five stars.”

“Hubitat is a place I find really good for work. I’ve been coming here for a year and always feel welcome. The space is bright and clean, with plenty of places to sit and focus. What I value most is the people — friendly, professional, and easy to connect with. The internet is fast, the coffee is always good, and the location in Novi Sad is very convenient. I’d recommend Hubitat to anyone looking for a good coworking space.”

“I used their virtual office service for a year and they provided great service — a real example of how things should be done in Serbia. Marijana was fast to reply, proactively helped navigate government organizations with a results-oriented approach, and sent photos of documents within 24 hours of receiving them. Keep setting the standard.”

“Extremely cosy, despite not being a sleek tech space — and that’s exactly the point. Right in the city centre, near Trg slobode. Free coffee and tea, good WiFi, rooms for calls and meetings. But the best part? The people.”

“The location is amazing, the space is enjoyable and gives you a cosy feeling while working. People are friendly and make you feel like part of the community. You can have a coffee of your choice, talk to someone, or enjoy yourself on one of the terraces.”

“Creative and pleasant people, always ready to help. Great place for working. Positive and warm atmosphere. Flexible working hours, stable connection, comfortable workspace, chairs, equipped kitchen, meeting room — highly recommended!”

“I spent almost three months here and loved everything — the location, the people, the internet, the desk, even the chairs. The most important thing for me personally was the 24/7 access. I’d come and go in the middle of the night and on weekends, which was a huge plus since most other places in the city had set hours only. And the people — warm, interesting, unlike anyone you’d meet anywhere else. I’m already missing it…. Hugs and kisses 🙂”

“A great place for a virtual office. I’ve been using their services for a year and they always helped whenever I needed it. The staff are professional and kind. I was completely satisfied with the service.”
